Ms. McGuirk's 6th Grade Science Class

A local Memphis Lab is looking for new scientists! They have a bunch of interesting scientific questions and they are looking to the 6th grade PCA Scientists to help them design an experiment to answer these questions!  You may choose from the following scientific questions:
  • Does the PCA Basketball team run faster after taking vitamins or without taking vitamins?
  • Can a lighter baseball be thrown farther than a heavier baseball?
  • Does fertilizer help a tomato plant grow tall?
  • Do sunflowers grow taller in sunlight or without sunlight?
  • Will bread mold faster when kept refrigerated or when left on the counter?
  • Which kind citrus fruit attracts the most flies: a lemon, lime, or orange?
  • Does ice melt fast when sugar or salt is added?
  • What color of the rainbow absorbs the most sunlight: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, or purple?
Your job is to take your chosen question through the first 4 steps of the scientific method by explaining thoroughly each step (#1. Choose a problem or a question, #2. Research your problem, #3. Develop your hypothesis, #4. Write your procedures)... and the best experiment will be conducted by Ms. McGuirk! (if possible and cost-effective)

*When you're done filling in your experimental design on your worksheet, download the file underneath today's date in "Unit 1 Resources"

As part of my goal to keep scholars and parents/guardians updated as much as possible and as frequently as possible, I will try my very best to upload relevant documents, Power Points, and homework assignments.  In case your scholar has forgotten their homework, lost their worksheet, or was absent on a day in class, you should be able to find the necessary resources from navigating my webpage.

Hello scholars, parents, and friends.  This website will be used to compliment Quia, Study Island, and our other online resources.  It will be a place that both scholars and their family members can come to stay up-to-date on what's happening in science class! ***As we begin the year, I ask that you be patient with the construction of the website.  I will do my best to upload relevant documents in a timely fashion, and if your find that I am not doing so, please feel free to email, call, or stop by! Thank you so much!

Click "Download File," and a small download box should pop up on your screen.  Click on the magnifying glass to the right, and then the template should open in Power Point!
